On Bhutanese mountain roads – where every kilometre climbs, curves, or does both – it takes 4.5 to 5 hours. Pack snacks. Plan for stops. You can cross the gate at any hour. But if you arrive after 5pm, you won’t be able to collect your permit until the next morning. So arriving in Jaigaon late in the afternoon and expecting to be in Thimphu by evening isn’t realistic – plan to reach the border before 2pm at the latest if you want permits sorted the same day.<\/p>
